Anxiety is a Beast

Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, and this is not medical advice.

Some anxiety is a part of everyday life, but it’s when we continue to worry when the event is over, or we dwell on what might or might not happen in the future, that anxiety becomes a problem.

It is imperative to address anxiety that interferes with how you live your life, your relationships, and your health. If stress and anxiety keep you from living your best life, then it is not acceptable. Excessive anxiety causes symptoms such as feelings of panic, phobias, and physical symptoms including but not limited to headaches, pain in the neck or back, tightness in the chest or heart palpitations, dizziness, and trouble sleeping. Of course, these symptoms then make you even more stressed and so the cycle continues.

There are coping habits we can incorporate to make us better able to manage anxiety, although everyone is different and there is not one specific thing that works for everyone. It’s something that may take a bit of trial and error to find what works for you. Exercise, practicing mindfulness, therapy, consulting a doctor, journaling, tapping the meridian points (EFT), deep breathing, and progressive muscle relaxation – which is tensing and relaxing muscle groups moving either from the feet up to the head or vice versa – and turning off the TV, phone, computer, tablet, etc. an hour before bedtime and taking this time to unwind are a few ways that can help you to get anxiety under control.

Fear less, hope more.

Whine less, breathe more.

Talk less, say more.

Hate less, love more.

And all good things are yours.
