Feel the Fear, Do It Anyway

There are times when we feel like life is dull and uninteresting, and we’re left with the sense of, “Is this all there is?” We get caught up in our routines, basically on auto-pilot, and we wake up one day wondering where the fun went. But life is what we make it. The more we put into it, the more we get out of it.

We may have always felt small, holding back because of our upbringing, or after some kind of harsh experience we went into protection mode and kind of shut down so as not to draw attention to ourselves. But this leads to us dimming our light and stifling our vitality and sense of adventure.

“Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.”

Dalai Lama

After having existed this way for so long, we begin to feel that it is ‘normal’; however, that sense of boredom or feeling stuck is our intuition telling us that we are meant for something greater, and that all we have to do is start changing our thoughts regarding how much fun we’re ‘allowed’ to have.

“If you raise your standards but don’t really believe you can meet them, you’ve already sabotaged yourself. You won’t even try; you’ll be lacking the sense of certainty that allows you to tap the deepest capacity that’s within you… Our beliefs are like unquestioned commands, telling us how things are, what’s possible and impossible and what we can and cannot do. They shape every action, every thought and every feeling that we experience. As a result, changing our belief systems is central to making any real and lasting change in our lives.”

Tony Robbins

Yes, venturing out to seek new experiences can be scary, especially when we’ve stayed in our small, protective bubble for so long. As the saying goes: feel the fear and do it anyway. This doesn’t mean go do something dangerous or wild, it just means we give ourselves permission to begin exploring something that interests us and creates a feeling of excitement and joy in our lives once again. Life is all about expanding and creating, and it is up to us to live our lives to the fullest.

“There is one grand lie – that we are limited. The only limits we have are the limits we believe.”

Wayne Dyer
