Let Go of the Victim Mentality

When we have obstacles and adversity in our lives, it can lead to feelings of panic, fear, resentment, and discouragement which can be exceedingly difficult to manage. While there will be times when we are a victim, many times, we may choose to play the victim and place the blame elsewhere. We must get off autopilot and make the necessary changes to lead us on to something better, rather than just sit in misery and wish things would change.

It is important to understand that these obstacles are just challenges to overcome, providing us with valuable lessons and that when we face them instead of ignoring them, hoping they will magically go away on their own, then we will become stronger and more confident.

If we choose to play the role of victim and refuse to take any responsibility for it, then it just creates more misery and prolongs the pain. If we can take the lessons from our experiences and learn from our mistakes and from the problems dealt to us, then we can take those experiences and turn them into something good.

Our lives reflect our thoughts and mindset; therefore, it is imperative to focus our thoughts on our strengths and our ability to adapt and overcome the challenges life throws our way. As we consciously make the choice to think in more positive ways and take charge of how we respond creatively, rather than just react, we will be better able to live a more fulfilling life.

We focus on the negatives, losing ourselves in the ‘problem.’ We point to our unhappy circumstances to rationalize our negative feelings. This is the easy way out. It takes, after all, very little effort to feel victimized.
