The Gift of Friendship

Many people know what it is like to be in a crowded place yet feel alone. It may seem like it’s hard to connect with other people sometimes. However, when we find people with whom we have a connection, it can make such a difference.

“It’s not what we have in life, but who we have in our life that matters.”

J. M. Laurence

Friendship is a real gift. When we take the time to be friendly, such as when we notice someone is feeling down or upset and we offer a smile or a kind word, it can have such a phenomenal effect on both them and us. Bonding with people who are likeminded or with whom we have a common interest, sharing a laugh, and taking the time to develop a stronger, more meaningful friendship is important for our wellbeing.

“One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood.”

Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Being a friend does take work, like any relationship, and true friendship does not mean being a ‘fair-weather’ friend; it means being there for one another when times are not so good. It’s also important to remember to not take one another for granted, and to celebrate and nurture our friendships often. Be the kind of friend you want to have.

“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”

Marcel Proust
