Change is Necessary for Growth
We have been evolving and changing as long as we’ve been alive, and we will continue to do so for as long as we live.
“Life belongs to the living, and he who lives must be prepared for changes.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Throughout all stages of life, as we grow and transform, it is important to release what we’ve outgrown or that is no longer helpful to us, therefore creating space (figuratively and literally) for new things to come into our lives. Often, we hold onto things out of fear or comfort, even if they no longer align with our growth. Therefore, we should practice letting go of attachments to outcomes, possessions, or relationships that no longer serve our highest good.
“Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go.”
Herman Hesse
We do this by clearing out our physical space and environment, such as by getting rid of clothes that no longer fit and any other items that we no longer use. As we let go of these items, it is a good idea to bless those items with gratitude, trusting they will go to those who need them to support their growth and development.
We can also create space mentally by taking some time for self-reflection and identifying and clearing out old, limiting beliefs and ideas that do not accurately mirror who we are now or who we’re becoming. By remaining open to new possibilities, experiences, and opportunities, we ensure we stay in the flow, moving in the right direction.
“To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.”
Henri Bergson
It is important to surround ourselves with likeminded people who can provide guidance, insights, and encouragement as we navigate through times of change. In addition, we must also prioritize self-care and engage in activities that bring us joy. It is also critical that we set new, clear intentions as we release what no longer works.
Remember, this is a process that takes time and patience, and is not always easy. Be kind to yourself and celebrate each step forward.
“Change, like healing, takes time.”
Veronica Roth
