Are You Sabotaging Your Mind Garden?
Last year I wrote, “What Are You Planting in Your Mind Garden?” which goes along with the topic for this week.
You do your part: plant your mind ‘garden’ with the ‘seeds’ of your intentions and goals, taking the necessary actions to get things ready for eventual success. But, once that happens your job changes; you now just maintain the garden by ‘weeding’ out the negative thoughts and ‘watering’ only the good ones. You’re not doing the growing, you just trust that what you’ve done is enough and expect at least some level of success. You can’t keep worrying that things aren’t working out, doubting that you’ll have success, because that will only keep your energy low and will sabotage all you have done.
“The master of the garden is the one who waters it, trims the branches, plants the seeds, and pulls the weeds. If you merely stroll through the garden, you are but an acolyte.”
Vera Nazarian
When planting an actual garden, after you prepare the soil, plant your seeds and water them, you cannot keep digging up your seeds to see if they’re sprouting! Just because you don’t see the results right away doesn’t mean things aren’t happening underneath the surface. You must give it time and trust that you will have new growth at some point. All you are required to do now is to be patient, water every so often, and keep the weeds and pests away so that nature can do her thing. That’s it. Before you know it, your efforts will yield results and you can harvest what you’ve planted.
“A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust.”
Gertrude Jekyll
So, just like with our garden scenario, when you focus on the dreams and goals you are striving for, your job is to consistently take the smalls steps needed and do your part, patiently wait for signs of growth and change in your life, as nature takes over and brings your work into fruition.
“It always amazes me to look at the little, wrinkled brown seeds and think of the rainbows in ’em,” said Captain Jim. “When I ponder on them seeds I don’t find it nowise hard to believe that we’ve got souls that’ll live in other worlds. You couldn’t hardly believe there was life in them tiny things, some no bigger than grains of dust, let alone colour and scent, if you hadn’t seen the miracle, could you?”
