Hidden in Plain Sight
They’re everywhere; every single minute of every single day. They can be found within serendipitous circumstances, interactions with ordinary people, even in the midst of what we consider to be difficulties. They can be obvious, or they may require a bit of digging to find, a shifting of perspective, so to speak. They are often hidden in plain sight.
What are ‘they’? Reasons to be happy.
“It isn’t what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.”
Dale Carnegie
During life’s highs, lows, and mundane, they are always there, just waiting for acknowledgment. All too often we are momentarily overcome with happiness, then it seems to ‘wear off’ and we wonder why we can’t hold on to that feeling. What’s changed?
Most likely we have started focusing on a perceived notion of lack, and as a result, we start noticing things that reflect that back to us. As we learn to look for and recognize reasons to be happy, we will realize that we are happier, for longer and longer periods of time. And this is not to suggest that we will be happy every minute of every day, that’s implausible. However, the more we place our attention on any one of the many thousands of reasons to be happy, the better we will feel and the more the events of our lives will mirror that happiness.
“It is only possible to live happily ever after on a daily basis.”
Margaret Bonanno
