Celebrate Good Times
How often do you celebrate your life? Once a year on your birthday or perhaps another anniversary date? Do you celebrate it daily? Or do you struggle to find anything worth celebrating, much less celebrating daily?
When you wake up, do you think, “How will I celebrate this day?” Or do you groan, already fretting about the to-do list or just because it’s more like life is a set routine and it’s not even a routine that fills you with joy?
“Keep your face always toward the sunshine—and shadows will fall behind you.”
Walt Whitman
The best place to begin is with gratitude and appreciation for the gift of life. If, when you first wake up, you just say, “Thank you!” it can set the tone for the day. Focusing on what you are thankful for, such as the people who care about you, the beauty that surrounds you, and any other blessings you already have in your life, opens the way for even more blessings to come.
“Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.”
Maya Angelou
You can celebrate your life in many ways, by choosing to place your attention on that which brings you happiness and adds meaning to your life. Some examples include finding reasons to smile and laugh, spending time with family and friends, making new friends, enjoying a walk or other form of exercise that feels good to you, and allowing yourself to just have fun.
Each day there is so much to be thankful for if you take time to notice what you might have overlooked before. Just by looking for the good, you can boost your mood, make your day brighter, and amplify that light, positive energy. Even the smallest things add up: a child’s laugh, a beautiful sunset, or witnessing an act of kindness. What will you find to celebrate today?
”Because you are alive, everything is possible.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
