What Are You Giving Your Attention To?
What you choose to focus on, whether in your thinking or your activities, affects you in so many ways. If you are constantly thinking about how you are going to manage everything you have to do today, and how exhausted you are, and how this is the most boring (meeting, job, person…) ever, then you aren’t making the most out of the limited time you have on this earth. Eventually, you will feel burned out and hopeless, stuck in a pattern that obviously generates depletion and more negative thinking and reflects in your life as more of the same. Then, it will spiral until you decide to take action to change your focus, or you die. Whichever comes first.
“The vast majority of people are born, grow up, struggle, and go through life in misery and failure, not realizing that it would be just as easy to switch over and get exactly what they want out of life, not recognizing that the mind attracts the thing it dwells upon.”
Napoleon Hill
I know, you have to-do lists and things you must take care of, as does everyone, but if you are solely focusing on what you feel you must do and you are always tired, frustrated, or depressed, then there is a problem. So, try an experiment- just for a week. What if you chose to focus on this moment, feeling gratitude for it and all the blessings of this day? What if you took that positive mindset and applied it toward focusing on finding efficient ways to check those items off your to-do list and using the extra time to participate in activities that make you happy and stimulate creativity? What if you started making small shifts in your life that reflect what you really want for yourself and resets the pattern to one that fulfills you? What if…?
As I stated previously, what you choose to give your attention to affects you in so many ways- mentally, emotionally, and physically. You are the only one who can think your thoughts, so notice what you are thinking about and how they are phrased, or how the pictures (mind-movies) and emotions associated with those thoughts make you feel. Chances are, you have significant room for improvement. The good news is you can begin NOW. Don’t wait for some potential future time when things will ‘be better’ or the perfect moment or conditions will suddenly appear. Begin making those changes, and the circumstances will start to shift toward what you are now giving your attention to.
“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”
Albert Einstein
